Message from our President, Maybette Waldron

Oh what a year….our Greens Farms Garden Club “Growing For Good” initiative was launched in 2021 to provide fresh organically grown vegetables and herbs to food banks during the summer months.  This opportunity to help those living in areas labeled as Food Desert was a particular interest to our members and aligned with our mission  to advance horticulture skills, civic development and environmental awareness. The recipients of our harvest appreciated not only the freshness and variety of the bounty but a chance to prepare it with their family members.

We finished our third season and each year have grown with the help from members, friends , businesses and grants like AMES Tool Grant.  This year we had the tools for our members to use on site at Prospect Gardens  and also at Wakeman Town Farm where we have one plot and that was a relief not to drag personal tools or forget them at home for our members!  We are truly grateful for this grant.  This year’s harvest has been more bountiful than last year with 20 Harvests and 818.50 pounds of organic freshness-Almost a half of a ton of vegetables and fruits!

We thank Ames Tool Grant for their support this season and in future seasons.  GFGC Growing For Good project is already planning and looking forward to the 2024 season with the help of our Ames tools in the dirt!
